Day 12

Home for the day. Nate was finally napping. We are told that he's more awake at night and sleepier during the day. Today was a busy one. It started with Nate calling Steve and telling him to get down there! Nate proceeded to talk to quite a few friends by phone. Late morning I was told that the funding for Nate was in-and in record time, too. When Santa Clara had a bed for him he would be transferred immediately. I got on the phone and had family visit,and a few friends got in also. Three hours later I am told that because he was able to shuffle, with assistance, out of his room, the criteria for the Medi-cal funding to Santa Clara, was now denied. Apparently he needed to also be unable to walk to qualify. Hmmm. Everyone on Nate's case is scrambling to try to get the funding back and get him to an acute facility immediately. Now they are also trying Cottage, in Santa Barbara.Bottom line is that he had a good day. He recognizes friends and family. He has more trouble with photos of friends and family. I listened in with the speech therapist and he obviously needs some help. Bringing up the right words is difficult, keeping a train of thought going is sketchy. Then he'll remember the random stuff. I'm sure this is typical of left frontal lobe damage. Everyone assures that he is young and healthy and will recover completely, in time.

Here is a list of specific prayer requests;
1.pneumonia- he still has rattling lungs. 2.Medi-cal Funding- he got it in record time, but lost it due to being able to shuffle some steps instead of relying solely on a wheelchair. 3.Where he is heading next keeps changing. We truly want God's will. 4. Continued prayer for divine peace. Today, he was much less agitated. 4.We are holding on, Nate keeps improving, but the need for rehab is evident.
Love and thanks to you all.

  1. Praise God that he can walk some!
    We toured the Cottage rehab when Alanna was in SB and we were impressed with that.

  2. Thank you for your encouragement and insight. We thought that we might have had time to talk with you, but things are accelerating! We are riding on God's timing, and feel ready, spiritually anyway, for whatever today will bring.
    Thank you,

  4. Steve and Cathe,
    Thank God that Nate is doing so well!
    Solutions sounds pretty good on their website, especially that they specialize in neurological disorders. I'd be happy to help you check it out further, including emailing a couple of therapists down there for opinions.
