Day 13

Late post, as I spent all day with Nate. He is doing great! I want everyone to take the time to draw a deep breath, say 'Thank you, Jesus', and know like we do, that Nate will be ok!
Today was lightyears ahead of yesterday. He walks without assistance, in and out of bed, bathes, and dresses himself. The pneumonia was declared gone this afternoon, and the IV's are gone for good. He remains in the ICU through the weekend. He has been accepted at Cottage rehab in Santa Barbara for Monday. Medi-cal still needs to Ok it. By Monday, we suspect that he will have passed their criteria and may just come home. Its all good. He does need therapy. Speech, word recognition, etc. is better, but still a bit strange at times. I don't know who will be his nurse this weekend, but today was very relaxed and anybody could come hang out. I'll be at home babysitting Jude, so Steve will be at the hospital. Text him when you come by and he can let you in. Nate's sleep patterns have reversed so we are trying to keep him more active during the day and he may sleep better at night. I was able to wheel him outside and he liked it. Maybe a group could show up with Nate's t-shirts on and surprise him outside...He still needs to hydrate and eat. As his senses of smell and taste recover from the trauma of the last weeks, I'm sure he'll begin to respond. Suggestions received helped a lot! Our Thanks to everyone,
Cathe
Please keep Nancy in your prayers. She was responding to treatment, but has since suffered a setback. We ask for her complete recovery!!

  3. Hi Steve and Cathe,
If you end up at Cottage, ask for the "apartment room" (it's like a studio apt.!).
(Just in case that falls through but Nate needs to go to a rehab, Alanna's speech therapist, Marna, says that her patients thought that Solutions was good. She also highly recommends Centre for Neuro Skills in Bakersfield (also in LA).

May God open and clearly show you the right door. Michael
